Development of a sensor-controlled, actively air-conditioned mattress
On the basis of research results, Comlogo GmbH and its partners are developing a climate mattress that analyses and intelligently and individually adjusts the temperature and humidity under the blanket so that the body does not cool down or heat up and an optimal sleeping environment is created.
In Germany, around one third of the population suffers from sleep disorders. This is due to shift work, chronic overload and stress, among other things, which can upset the hormone balance. Another important factor for restful sleep is the ambient temperature. This is optimal if the body can maintain its own temperature of 37°C without sweating or freezing. Also the air humidity has influence on the sleep quality and should not under or exceed values of 40-60 %. However, such data cannot be generalized, since the optimal „feel-good values“ are very individual; especially in shared bedrooms this can lead to problems. Consequences of bad or even missing sleep are a concentration deficit, depressive moods, thinking disturbances up to hallucinations.
By the additional collection and analysis of movements the different sleep phases are further identified and so the quality of the sleep is purposefully improved. Pressure, temperature and humidity sensors, heating elements and a ventilation system are integrated into the mattress to intelligently adapt the optimum climate in the bed to the current sleep phase based on the sensor data.
With the climate-regulated mattress, we want to place a product on the market that intelligently supports sleep, thus contributing to well-being and improving nocturnal relaxation.
The development project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Lower Saxony Programme Area Stronger Developed Region (SER).
